They leak--- low level amounts of tritium(radioactive isotope)into ground soil and drinking water--- as is/was the case in Illinois(Braidwood, Byron, and Dresden)and several other plants around the country.

Companies like Exelon, were fined and sued for failing to alert the public of such contamination after years of covering up.

There is no such thing as "safe storage" of nuclear waste. More nuclear power plants means more waste and greater chance of security breach.

More nuclear power plants means more mining for Uranium--- a very finite resource.

Why would anyone think that a finite resource is the longterm answer to our needs?

Morons and profit-driven masochists.

Old nuclear power plants that have been "retired," or become non-operational, cost billions to "clean up," leaving traces of radioactive contamination behind for hundreds of years, at the very least.

There is no such thing as a safe amount, or harmless amount, of radioactive exposure.

Now take into account that you can't just pop-out power plants in short time(20-30 years)and the estimated costs to taxpayers as Wisco has explained here, and what you've got is a recipe for economic and ennvironmental disaster.

I don't trust advocates for nuclear power. They're dangerous, maybe even crazy, liars who try to sugar coat the risks the same way, if not worse, than tobacco lobbyists and industry insiders.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
