Feingold: Iraq War Based on 'An Outrageous Pile of Lies'

From WISC-TV:

FITCHBURG, Wis. -- U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., spoke about the Iraq war and even his long-rumored run for the White House next year during a Dane County town hall-style forum on Monday.

During the meeting at the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County in Fitchburg, the Iraq issue dominated the discussion, WISC-TV reported.

Most of the attendees -- who were mostly supporters of the senator -- said that they agreed with Feingold's position of setting a timetable for troop withdrawal from Iraq.

Meanwhile, Feingold is apparently ramping up the tough talk about how the war in Iraq is being handled. Feingold said the Bush administration is keeping the U.S. in the country based on "an outrageous pile of lies."

[...]

"There should be accountability for being stuck there because they won't admit their mistakes," Feingold said. "And that's what's getting me angrier and angrier. Everybody admits (it). I mean, John McCain said yesterday on 'Meet The Press,' 'We're not winning.'

"When did he change his mind on that?" he said.

How does this crazy moonbat peacenik stuff play in the heartland? According to a WISC-TV poll of 600 Wisconsin residents, Russ has 53% support for an '08 presidential bid and enjoys an approval rating of 57%. And it's stuff like this that gets him those numbers. On Bush's warrantless wiretapping, recently ruled unconstitutional, Feingold said, "Democrats aren't bold enough in saying we should stand up to the president breaking the law." Feingold has called for Bush's censure.

His position on drawing up a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq is also a key to Feingold's popularity here in flyover country. In April, Wisconsin voters in 30-some communities voted on advisory referenda to pull out of Iraq. The antiwar vote was a landslide win.

And if it were held nationwide, it'd be a landslide as well. Opposition to the war in Iraq is at an all time high, at 61%.

So don't listen to Rush Limbaugh talking about what'll fly in the heartland or Bill O'Reilly on what the 'folks' think about the war. Not only do polls show that that middle-america opposes the war, but we're willing to go vote on it and make that opposition official and get it on the record.

It's not crazy. It's reality. We Cheeseheads didn't fall for the line of BS that GWB fed us, trying to link Saddam to September 11. We remember how, not that long ago, we were buddy-buddy with Saddam, against the hated Iranians (we still remember when Donny Rumsfeld had his picture taken shaking Saddam's hand, and we know that any WMD's, if EVER found, will probably have a "Made in America" label on them, 'cause we GAVE them to Saddam).

We've actually taken the time to READ the Constitution, and didn't stop once we got to the 2nd Amendment. We care more about the 4th Ammendment ("The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized").

The problem is, with the exception of Rusty and a few others (on both sides of the aisle), the majority of politicians spend more time primping for the camera and whoreing themselves out to the highest corporate bidder than they do attending to the needs of those who supposedly ELECTED them. The "throw the bums out" attitude is starting right here in Cheesehead Land, and if I were either a 2-term loser of a pResident, or an incumbent Congressman who kisses Exxon-Mobil's ass, I might wanna look over my shoulder for the townspeople approaching me with torches and pitchforks.

November is gonna be fun...
