Lying Us to Death

(Keywords: politics, war, Iraq, President Bush, the tangled web we weave )

It's kind of not really news, is it? CBS reports that a CIA official will appear on 60 Minutes sunday to say that the administration cherry-picked info about WMD in Iraq.

Tyler Drumheller says that they had good intelligence that Iraq had no WMD. The source was Iraq's foreign minister, Naji Sabri. From CBS:

"[The source] told us that there were no active weapons of mass destruction programs," says Drumheller. "The [White House] group that was dealing with preparation for the Iraq war came back and said they were no longer interested. And we said 'Well, what about the intel?' And they said 'Well, this isn't about intel anymore. This is about regime change.' "

This makes me wonder how the final 33% who still support Bush will react. They'll probably just ignore it. Every criticism of Bush, though demonstrably true, falls on death ears. The core Bush supporters probably can't be turned. It's frightening to think that a full third of americans are such morons.

The biggest blow of all: the annual war expenditures in Iraq continues to rise, from $48 billion in 2003, to $59 billion in 2004, to $81 billion in 2005 to an anticipated $94 billion in 2006, according to the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments.

The U.S. government is now spending nearly $10 billion a MONTH in Iraq and Afghanistan!

The remaining 33% believe the qestion is moot. He's the decider and he can choose which intelligence to ignore. We didn't get to be the last world power by telling a lot of truth.
