Today's BS from the Religious Right -- Christmas is a Secular Holiday to Celebrate Diversity

Remember last year when they cancelled Christmas and no one was allowed to celebrate it? Yeah, me neither. But, apparently, Christmas is in real danger of being cancelled by secular grinches out to destroy the holiday.

Which, if you listen to Bill O'Reilly, doesn't make a lot of sense. "[Jesus] was a philosopher and a man whose philosophy was taken by the Founding Fathers in association with Judeo tradition. And they use a lot of it to forge our Constitution and our Bill of Rights..." he told viewers on the 27th, "You can honor the man Jesus as a philosopher because it's a federal holiday, a secular holiday, are you with me?" You have to wonder if Bill gets all bent out of shape over the way no one celebrates Arbor Day anymore. Why would secular people attack what's a secular holiday -- is there a War on Flag Day?

Here's the thing; which parts of Jesus's philosophy did the framers of the Constitution use? Be as specific as possible, Bill. Looking through the Bible, I'm not seeing the part where Jesus says, "I know, we'll all vote on it," or, "You know what we need? Freedom of the press." Ironically, we owe a lot more to the romans for our system of government than we do to Jesus.

Then again, I'm probably a ''cultural fascist'. According to Right Wing Watch:

The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights placed a costly advertisement in the op-ed section of the New York Times declaring that “cultural fascists” are preparing to destroy Christmas again this year. Catholic League President William Donohue writes:

There is something sick about Friendship Trees, Winter Solstice Concerts, Holiday Parades and Holly Day Festivals. The neutering of Christmas extends to the banishment of Nativity Scenes from the public square, the expulsion of baby Jesus from crèches not otherwise forbidden, the banning of red and green at school functions, the censoring of “Silent Night” at municipal concerts, etc.

The ad closes, "By celebrating Christmas we are celebrating diversity. Don't let the cultural fascists get their way this year." Let me get this straight. By celebrating the god who said, "Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed," we're celebrating diversity? Looks to me like he's against diversity.

And, again, it's weird how the founders overlooked making it illegal to worship anyone other than Yahweh while writing laws based on judeo-christian ideas. Kinda looks like that's central to the whole J-C deal.

So let's all celebrate Christmas and remember these words of the Lord:

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him."
-- Deuteronomy 13:13-19

There's your diversity...
